Abstract:
India aims to build the space sector into a $50 billion economy by 2024, which will contribute 1% to India’s gross domestic product (GDP). The Indian space market now comprises government institutions, startup companies, and private players to expand in the fields of small satellites, launch vehicles, space communication, and architecture. Looking at this boom in the Space Industry, the Indian Space Research Institute is proposed at Kaksa, West Bengal as a part of the Bachelor of Architecture Thesis. The institute brings together space education, a space research facility, a space startup incubator, and a kid’s space museum inside a single campus.

Overview:
I would like to take this chance to give a brief insight into this vision. This project was formulated around January last year when ISRO and the Department of Space were founding the base for private organizations and startups to flourish. Thus, my take was to design an institute that would house academics (B.Tech/M.Tech/Ph.D in Aerospace, Space Science, Mechatronics, etc.), incubators for startups, and a museum with a rocket garden that would be open to the public to spread awareness about the booming space industry of India. The government, private, and public institutions are put under one roof, the institution is also planned to house a clean room (for a satellite manufacturing unit), a rover testing station, and a 10-meter runway (for testing small prototypes of aeroplanes and other aviation technologies).

So far IN+SPACe-ISRO and Indian Space Policy 2023 have successfully implemented the ideas to push the Indian Space research and development. I believe an institute of this type would bring more opportunities for development and collaboration, provide startups with the knowledge base and infrastructures in a subsidized format, and spark a discussion about India's legacy in Space Technology.
